When will the Goddesses' face lit up?
There is this Malayalam movie Araan Thamburan where Mohan Lal the protagonist returns to the village of his birth after claiming to have purchased an ancestral home. The villagers warm up to Mohan Lal and entitle him as Araan Thamburan or the Sixth Lord.
In this village, the Devi Ulsavam (The festival of the village Goddess) has been halted for several years due to a rogue landlord. The Devi’s saddened face is a grief that villagers carry in their heart. They seek the help of Araan Thamburan to initiate the Devi Ulsavam once again in the village.
After resolving many hindrances our hero, the Araan Thamburan finally brings joy to the village by destroying the rogue lord and starting the Devi ulsavam. The villagers return after the pooja and inform the sixth lord about their Devi whose face is now clear of sorrow and is lit with joy.

Whenever I watch this movie I search the face of the Devi idol to see how that face got cleared of sadness and bloomed with light. How an idol of Devi can exhibit qualities of sadness, joy, and grace. So I analyzed and realized that it was not the idol where these emotions emerged. It was actually the emotions of the villagers that got reflected on Devi’s face.
The rogue landlord that manifested evil choked their freedom and suffocated them in his evil environment. The villagers could see their loss of freedom as a matter of sadness on their Devi’s face. Just like how their mother would have been sad if one of the family members get hurt or upset. Need not to say more about how our own mother can easily cry along with us when we are sad. In fact, if any member of the family is upset, the first person who loses the charm on the face is the mother.
Today in India on the day of Dussehra, when we look at our goddesses surely we cannot miss her face that is gloomy broken, tearful and hurt. This nation regards them as mothers.
A Mother looks after the well-being of the family. She keeps the house clean. Cooks food. Teaches. Worries for your health. All-in-all she is the caretaker of your well being. Thus, she keeps you prosperous in health and wise in attitude.

In a country where our goddesses are an epitome of wealth and wisdom, recent happenings reveal that this mother’s children have not only become poor but imbecile too. This mother’s house, this nation, is not clean, her children cannot eat what they desire, they are inflicted with imbecilities and innuendos. Her sons are getting killed in vain and her daughters are dishonored. The harmony of her home is lost.
The pain of losing the normal functioning of her house is writ all over her face. Are we so blinded not to notice this? Don’t we see that when we look at the faces of our Goddesses’ on this day?

Children can bring anguish to a mother and only children can appease their mother. A mother doesn’t require big things to please. She finds her joy in small things that build up love and harmony. Some smile, some laughter, some affection, mended hearts, some concern for your fellow being, some care is all it needs to lit up a mother’s face in a smile of contentment.
Will the children of this nation pick on this gem of wisdom and bring back the lost grace and sparkle on the Mother Goddesses’ face? Will they understand that a mother’s face is lit not with the glitter of gold coins but when each of them genuinely shines in the true knowledge of harmony and peace?
